Demon Wars

Perhaps one of the most iconic and well-known conflicts in all of Legerian history, the Demon Wars were a period of tumultuous violence and bloodshed spanning 5 years. The beginning of the Demon Wars also served as a historical point of reference, dividing the "old" and "new" world--truly, the arrival of supernatural, extradimensional warriors to one's home would cause change.

The Demon Wars were marked by two, incredibly clear-cut sides. The invaders: the Demons, possessed a seemingly endless army of unholy, artificial constructs[^1]. They were hellbent on the eradication of life on Legere. In defense of the Legerian people were the Angels, divine warriors under command of their King to preserve His creations. Caught in the crossfire were the people of Legere, who decided to rise up alongside their Angelic protectors in order to defend their homeworld from destruction.

The first battle of the Demon Wars happened in Dorfeld.

Lasting Impact #

The Demon Wars were a world and culture-shattering series of battles that fundamentally redirected the potential trajectory of Legere's history.

Globalization & Immigration #

Primarily, the cooperation of all Legerian nations (especially across Hohm) would lead to a surge in globalization. The borders between nations were also much looser, allowing immigration between nations to be widely accessible[^2]. For example, it was not unheard of to find diasporas of western Hohmites in the eastern reaches of the Sangmyung Valley.

Language #

While Tradespeak was widely used by merchants and traders for hundreds of years, it was extremely niche, with an average individual only speaking their native tongue. However, Tradespeak proved to be essential for communication during the Demon Wars, and its usage and popularity exploded. Once the conflict was resolved, Tradespeak's impact remained, and most nations transitioned to bilingualism.

Global Calendar #

The Legerian United Calendar was originally invented as a temporary solution for coordinating anti-Demon combat operations. However, it--like Tradespeak--remained in use due to popularity.

As a memorial of the victory achieved over the profane forces, the Heavenstide holiday was created.

Religion #

The combined combat effort of both Angel and mortal led to unavoidable dialogue revealing the truth of all Creation--primarily that there was one omnipotent entity that forged everything alone. Many religions across Legere withered in response to such revelation, although many that had already worshipped this Angelic King (unknowingly) grew stronger.

Footnotes #

[^1]: See Imps and Nephilim. [^2]: This is, of course, a generalization. The strength of Legerian nations' borders were constantly in flux with the time period.
